Beauty:ASK THE BEAUTY EXPERT
Ask: "No matter how much I wash my face, I still have blackheads. I feel like putting a bag over my head. What can I do?"
LK: "It seems that you may be using either the wrong cleanser, or you are not getting the right salon and homecare advice. You might want to consider undergoing a professional laser/light treatemt that fuses with a transdermal topical delivery system. This will help with the treatment of comedonal acne (blackheads and whiteheads), which is known to be a difficult condition to treat. You need to find the best solution to draw the impurities out and also destroy the bacteria which causes the breakouts."
Ask: "I don't have time for complicated skincare routine; can you recommend the basic steps I need to do to maintain my skin?"
LK: "Your skincare routine need not be complicated to be effective. However, there is a basic regimen you need to follow. I'm sure you always hear this: "Always remove your makeup thoroughly, even if your are too tired from work or partying." Wash your face in the morning and night only, as over-washing may excessively strip moisture from your face.
Use a good exfoliant twice a week. These include face scrubs, a liquid peel or skin exfoliator pad. Always follow this with a good moisturizer as well as sun block, if you intend to venture out in the sun.
Contrary to older practices, you need not use toner if you are using an exfoliant twice a week. Please note that an exfoliant is not the same as a scrub. Scrubs come under the division of exfoliants, however exfoliants are not limited to scrubs. I stress this because a common mistake I see happening with those who have acne skin is that they will use scrubs on their face in order to rid themselves of their pimples and acne. Scrubs should never be used for oily or acne prone skin. When you scrub your face, the granules in the scrub will aggravate the oil glands and this circular motion creates a micro massage action, which will then stimulate them to produce yet more oil."
Ask: "My eyes are always puffy when I wake up, what can I do to ensure that I look fresh?"
LK: "Although we are encouraged to drink lots of water daily, avoid drinking water within three hours of sleep. Another common mistake that leads to puffy eyes is drinking excessive alcolhol, as well as eating foods that are high in salt. All these will cause you to retain water. You may think that retaining all this water would be good for you, however, your puffy eyes beg to differ.
The solution is quite simple. Splash your face with cold water. Then, place a cube of ice in a cloth and apply lightly in a circular micro massage manner for at least 10 minutes."
Ask: "What foods can I eat to get good skin?"
LK: "The clichéd answer would be to eat more fruits and veggies, drink more water and consume less salt in foods. However, I am going to share a secret my grandmother has passed down to me.
Believe it or not, you need to eat pigs' skin and make sure you shave off the layer of excess fat; just eat the skin itself. You can find this commonly as a key ingredient in kway chap at your local hawler centre. You can also find pigs' skin at some yong tau fu shops.
Apart from this, another food that contributes to good skin is chicken feet, which you will normally find served as one of many dim sum dishes. Alternatively, if you were to cook chicken feet with red dates, wolfberries and peanuts, I promise this will give you skin that everyone will be envious of.
Another food that will give you good skin is white fungus. I suggest these foods because they are high in collagen and fats. Once consumed, they provide your skin with natural moisture which prevents the formation of wrinkles, and creates a barrier prohibiting UV rays from damaging your skin and thus prevents pigmentation. The collagen gives your skin added firmness."
Ask: "Help! Will I have to live with my double chin forever?"
LK: "No, you do not have to suffer living with a double chin forever – you can also have a triple chin if you so wish! On a serious note, there are such advanced technologies available now like our state-of-the-art technology equipment at GLOW Aesthetics™ that can diminish that double chin instantly after the first treatment."
Ask: "No matter how much I exercise, I can't seem to get rid of my cellulite. Are there any treatments that can help minimize the dimpled skin on my thighs?"
LK: "For a start, cellulite is the term given to the dimpled appearance of skin, that is caused by fat deposits just below the surface of the skin. It generally appears on skin in the abdomen, lower limbs and pelvic region, and it usually occurs after puberty.
Not all hope is lost if exercise doesn't do the trick for you, as there are many treatments available. These range from deep anti-cellulite massages for those of you who want a more personal touch, to state-of-the-art technology equipment specially designed to break down cellulite, thus eliminating them for a very long time."
